Spex Eyewear and its forerunner, villagevision

Reflecting stylish brands while covering vision health and community events.

Several years back, villagevision introduced stylish eyewear to central Lake County, Illinois. The shop emphasized terrific doctor-patient relationships and its welcoming staff had a finger on the pulse of the latest custom eyewear and was expert at selecting the perfect pair of frames for any face. And villagevision was a leader in the rebirth of its downtown, and an instigator of community-building events. The shop’s newsletter, the Village Visionary, was a bright purple extension of this outgoing personality, and an upbeat combination of education and fun.

When the shop’s owner retired, the equally hip Spex Eyewear chain moved in, continuing the emphasis on designer styles and eye health. Spex asked Jill to create doctors’ newsletters for distribution in their shops to help patients get to know their doctors while learning to take better care of their vision. An “Inside Spex” column was added for product and community news. The staff soon found another side benefit: the newsletters provided patients a way to check their new prescriptions for reading.

“Koch CREATIVE. The name says it best. CREATIVE. I was looking for a graphic artist that ‘colored outside the lines.’ I found that quality in Jill. She understood my vision and what I was looking for to represent villagevision. She understood ‘quirky.’ From the font, to the stick girls, to the ink color and to the paper quality – Jill took every detail and provided me with exactly what I wanted. Jill was a joy to work with – literally – I have never seen her without a sparkle in her eye or without a smile on her face. If you are looking for professionalism, creativity and my favorites – hip and quirky – look no further. Koch Creative is the best!”
